Scheduling deposit: $250
The deposit is credited toward the total examination fee. It is nonrefundable when an applicant cancels or reschedules within 14 calendar days of the examination. Initial, added-rating, and complete-examination fees cover up to eight hours of testing; additional time is billed at $150 per hour. The complete examination requires an interview with the examiner. Practical-retest scope is confirmed from the assigned projects before scheduling.
AFCOOL-funded applicants
The same published examination fees apply to military and nonmilitary applicants. Request an itemized invoice for your AFCOOL funding request, and do not pay the scheduling deposit or examination fee before AFCOOL approval and payment by the AFCOOL Purchasing Agent. Cancellations, refunds, and withdrawals arising from military necessity are handled in accordance with current AFCOOL requirements and the applicable vendor agreement.

All examination fees are invoiced directly to the school under an established billing agreement.
U.S. certification,
international pathway.
There is no U.S. citizenship requirement for an FAA mechanic certificate. International applicants must have their experience evaluated by the appropriate FAA International Field Office, complete required testing in the United States, and satisfy current identification and English-language requirements.

Who may apply for an FAA mechanic certificate?+
Applicants must be at least 18 years old, meet the FAA English-language requirement, and qualify through an FAA-certificated Part 147 school, documented civil or military experience, or an accepted military pathway.
Where is testing conducted?+
Primary testing is conducted by appointment in Dover, Delaware, with convenient access from Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and the Delmarva Peninsula.
How long does an oral and practical exam take?+
Duration depends on the ratings tested and projects assigned by the FAA testing system. The complete General, Airframe, and Powerplant examination is offered as a one-day session after an interview with the examiner.
What happens if I do not pass part of the exam?+
You will receive documentation identifying the failed subject areas or projects. A later reexamination is limited to the assigned areas, subject to current FAA requirements.
